Events Near Oranmore Lodge Hotel
Galway Early Music (GEM) has been promoting the best of medieval, renaissance and baroque music making in Galway since 1996.
The Galway Early Music Festival
The Festival, which runs annually in May is Galway Early Music’s main event for the year. With concerts, workshops, talks, demonstrations, music on the streets and family events, the Festival fills the medieval streets and venues of Galway with music and colour. Past festivals have featured outstanding international musicians and ensembles such as Jordi Savall, Andrew Lawrence-King and the Harp Consort, Red Priest, Ensemble Unicorn, Benjamin Bagby, François Lazarevitch, Alla Francesca, and many others. GEM is also proud to invite outstanding Irish artists such as Siobhán Armstrong, Malcolm Proud, Laoise O’Brien, Malachy Robinson, Eamon Sweeney, Mark Duley and Resurgam Chamber Choir, amongst many others.
The Galway Early Music Festival is live and hybrid with a dazzling programme featuring music and the stars, the harmony of the planets in their orbits, the music of mathematics and geometry, music and art, and the music at the heart of the Universe.
They are going full steam ahead this year and placing music and art at the centre of “STEM” (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), as it was from the time of Pythagoras right up to the Baroque era. The idea that the universe is based on harmony and proportion, and that this is expressed not only in the sciences of mathematics, geometry and astronomy, but also in music, opens a new way of experiencing the wonderful music of the medieval, renaissance and baroque eras.
